Welcome to the Home of the U.S. Angels!
We’re glad you stopped in to help us help our troops.
The U.S. Angels were born from a need for some fundraising immediately following the tragedy this country experienced on September 11, 2001. The Angels were able to raise more than $10,000 for the Pentagon Foundation. Our events have included motorcycle rides, a Soldier’s Paradise Party on the grounds of Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Harley-Davidson store open houses, calendar release parties, appearances at shopping malls, and we even co-hosted one of the Inaugural Balls in 2005! Also in 2005, we were featured in the Rolling Thunder magazine and had prime real estate on Thunder Alley for the entire Memorial Day weekend. What an honor and a privilege! Over the Christmas holiday, we placed donation boxes in various government buildings and received an overwhelming supply of toiletries, books, writing pads, non-perishable food, and various items that were sent over to our troops currently serving in the Middle East. The donations also included a huge box full of stuffed animals and toys for U.S. soldiers to give to the children in the war-torn cities.
Over the past two years our entire focus has been the Fisher House at Walter Reed Army Medical Center here in Washington DC. All proceeds from our calendars, events, and t-shirt sales are sent directly to Fisher House. When we receive a request to appear at a function, we simply ask that a donation be made and sent directly to the Fisher House. If we sponsor our own event, the proceeds are either sent to Fisher House or we find a need and apply the donation there. In the past we have purchased airline tickets for family members to visit their loved one, paid for a rental car for a wounded soldier’s visiting family, and we also purchased massage chairs placed in the Fisher House. These chairs are in high demand at the House, as most of the residents are amputees who are learning how to use muscles differently than they have before and the physical therapy is very demanding.
We have been lucky enough to host several parties for our troops and their families at Fisher House. We have shared Valentine’s Day, Christmas, and Halloween with these families who are so far away from home. On the days of these parties, we always begin with a visit to our troops who are still hospitalized at Walter Reed. We spend some time with each one of them and thank them for serving our country and sacrificing so much for our freedom and way of life. This is the very essence of our reason – when you walk into the hospital room of one of our wounded troops and see him there with injuries that cost him his legs or his arms or sometimes both and as you stand there listening to him talk about his brothers and sisters still serving our country and his guilt that they remain over there and he cant help them, it has a tendency to inspire you to do something. We consider ourselves very fortunate to be in the company of these brave men and women. Ironically, the hardest part is when they have recovered enough to go home, whether that be Texas, Arkansas, Ohio, or any other state. We know they are on their way to a new life and are grateful that we were a part of their recovery. They do keep in touch with us and let us know how they and their families are doing. We have seen them go skiing, join a triathalon, and become motivational speakers for others in similar situations! These men and women are truly an inspiration to us all.
We are proudly sponsored by H-D of Washington in Fort Washington, Maryland as well as All-American H-D located in Hughesville, Maryland. These two stores provide us with prizes for our Poker Runs, door prizes for our events, and always help us advertise and promote any event we are involved in. When one of the stores is hosting an Open House, you can always bet the Angels will be there! We are eternally grateful for the support we receive from all of our friends and family.
Membership in the U.S. Angels is completely voluntary. Most of us are mothers who hold down a full-time job and all of us are dedicated to what we do. We are a sisterhood with a bond that can never be broken. When our hearts are all touched by the same thing at the same time, it inspires us to do more. You can actually see it happening! The Angels mission is a simple one. If we can brighten the day for just one of our wounded soldiers or bring a smile to his face, we have accomplished our goal. This kind of effect is addicting. Once we make one smile, we want to make another one smile, and we just keep going.
It’s not an effort. It’s a cause.
